Recommended Workouts For Depression

We all have days that we are on top of things, happy and excited to tackle almost everything. However, some days are just dull days, lazy ones that we feel like doing absolutely nothing. All these are normal, but, when it reaches a point where the latter becomes more consistent and lasts for more than a day, depression might be kicking in.

Depression is an illness, more so a mental illness as it affects how we think, feel and act. If not well dealt with in time, depression can cause serious health issues in the long run. Besides other cures for depression and anxiety such as having a therapist, exercises also have an edge on one’s treatment. Keeping the body active has worked out for other people who were in your shoes and might as well be what you need towards your road to healing.

What then are some of the workouts for depression?

  1. Hiking

Hiking, especially with friends and family, can be quite relieving and relaxing. Often, most hiking destinations have beautiful sceneries and will keep your mind occupied as you move along admiring nature. Sometimes, if lucky enough you might be able also to see wild animals such as zebras, monkeys, gazelles among others which will bring some sense of excitement. Hiking is all about creating awesome memories, and as much as it may seem more of a fun activity, it may be the answer to your depression treatment.

  1. Running

Getting up and deciding to jig after a long day can be very relaxing. Being on track causes the body boosting hormones, endorphins, which uplift your spirits and bring about a euphoric feeling. Feel free to take tour earphones with you while running to make it more enjoyable. Be sure that after the morning or afternoon jog you will be more lively and ready to face whatever comes your way.

  1. Yoga

Yoga exercise involves rhythmical breaths, some body postures and simple meditations among others. All you need is a yoga mat and the yoga exercise attire (can be as simple as your pj’s) – don’t stress.  One of the recommended natural cures for depression is to take deep breaths and focus on the positive things in life. Yoga exercises not only have short term effects but may prove way beneficial in the long run.

  1. Dancing

When it comes to dancing for the benefit of dealing with depression, it does not really matter if you have two left feet. Do you know what matters? The fact that you can actually move! You can find a dance class that plays your favorite songs or you can as well put the radio on and dance to the rhythm. Studies have shown that there is a connection between your mind and your body while dancing which results in relaxation.

  1. Lifting Weights

When it comes to lifting weights, you need to start slow then gradually increase the number of kilograms that you lift with time. Often, you will find that after enough bodybuilding, your self-confidence increases meaning that you will be more confident with whom you are hence beating depression.
